NJCDB is the host of an ongoing statewide Community of Practice and Support (CoPS) on Deafblindness that is designed to bring together all persons with an interest and/or some level of involvement in the education and transition of infants, toddlers, children, and youth with deafblindness. The CoPS is a vehicle for increasing knowledge and skill through professional development, leveraging of resources among agencies, building individual and agency capacities in service to New Jersey students who are deafblind. The CoPS consists of five cohorts that include (1) Family Community Cohort, (2) Early Childhood Community Cohort, (3) School-Age Community Cohort, (4) Schools & Programs for the Deaf Community Cohort, and (5) Transition to Adulthood Community Cohort.
There are 3 Major Community of Practice and Support formal meetings each year and each meeting has a specific topic. In addition, to the meeting topics, each Cohort meets to problem solve issues; share ideas; identify needs and plan for future trainings. The 3 dates and topics are identified above for the 2009 - 2010 academic year. Each member must register on the NJCDB website for every meeting, workshop or training they would like to attend.
