Presented by Dr. Jan van Dijk
Dr. Jan van Dijk is the world renowned educator from the Netherlands who has pioneered teaching approaches appropriate for child with Deafblindness. His approaches emphasize a learning through movement, communication, and mutually shared experiences between the child and others. Dr. Jan van Dijk fosters the idea that learning is optimal when it takes place in natural settings (home, school, & community)
This session will provide an overview of the Dr.van Dijk approaches to communication and literacy development . This includes the relationship between movement and interactional development to foster symbolic communication through calendar boxes, memory books and other augmentative systems. In addition, Dr. van Dijk will address the correlation between communication and behavior challenges in children who are deafblind. This workshop will include a formal presentation by Dr. Jan van Dijk as well as presentation of specific cases
